What is Islam? This question bugs many as they see Islamophobia gaining popularity and at the same time, countless people turning to Islam as well. Here is the basic meaning and framework of Islam for the convenience of the confused, annoyed or curious readers.
Islam is derived from the Arabic root “Salema”: peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law. A Muslim is the one who submits his will to God and testifies “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is His Messenger”. There are between 1 billion and 1.8 billion Muslims, making Islam the second-largest religion in the world, after Christianity.
Muslims believe that God revealed the Qur’an to Muhammad (PBUH), God’s final prophet, and regard the Qur’an and the Sunnah (words and deeds of Prophet PBUH)) as the fundamental sources of Islam. They do not regard Muhammad as the founder of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original monotheistic faith of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets.
Articles of Faith
1. A Muslim believes in One God. He is Eternal, Infinite and Mighty, Merciful; the Creator of everything and everyone. He has no father nor mother, no sons nor daughters. He has not fathered anyone nor was He fathered. None is equal to Him. God commands people to know Him, love Him and to enforce His Law for their own benefit.
2. A Muslim believes in all the Messengers and Prophets of God without any discrimination. All messengers were mortals, human beings, endowed with Divine revelations and appointed by Allah to guide mankind. The message of all of them is the same: to submit our will to Him and to obey his law i.e, to become a Muslim.
3. A Muslim believes in all scriptures and revelations of God, as they were complete and in their original versions. The Quran refers to the books revealed to Abrahim, Moses, David, Jesus and Muhammad. These books do not exist in their original form now; they are either lost, corrupted or concealed. Today the Quran is the only authentic and complete book of God. No scholar has ever questioned its originality and it’s the same as it was 1400 years ago. Muslims till today memorize the Quran word by word as a whole or in part.
4. A Muslim believes in the angels of God. They are creation of Allah and spend their time in His service.
5. A Muslim believes in the Day of Judgment. Everyone will be raised on this day and will be held responsible for his/ her deeds. They will be rewarded with Paradise or punished in hell according to what they have earned on fair basis by Him.
6. A Muslim believes in predestination. In accordance with the Islamic belief in predestination, or divine preordainment, God has full knowledge and control over all that occurs.
Application of Faith
1. Prayer
Prayer is considered as the meeting of man with God. It is compulsory five times a day but flexibility in the specifics is allowed depending on circumstances.
2. Fasting
The objective of Fasting is to induce piety within the believers. It means to abstain from indulging in all sorts of evil activities besides refraining from eating, drinking, intimate sexual contact and smoking from the break of dawn until sunset. It teaches patience, unselfishness, moderation, willpower, discipline, spirit of social belonging, unity and brotherhood. Obligatory Fasting is done once a year for the period of the month of Ramadan.
3. Obligatory Charity or Zakat
The literal meaning of Zakat is to “purify.” It refers to a certain amount that a Muslim is obliged to give to the deserving. This purifies the heart and wealth of the believer. Other than obligatory charity, Muslims are told to give whatever they have in excess to the need and the deserving.
4. The Pilgrimage (Hajj)
It is a pilgrimage to Mekkah, at least once in a lifetime and it is obligatory upon every Muslim male and female who has the means to do so.
Islam: a Code of Life
1. Spiritual Life
Spiritual life in Islam implies love for God and His Messenger (PBUH), following the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), love for truth and humanity, complete trust and reliance on Allah and doing all good for Him alone.
2. Intellectual Life
Islam encourages faith in Allah on the basis of knowledge and research. Quran invites the readers to reflect on the outward as well as signs of Allah within oneself.
3. Personal and Family Life
This includes purity, healthy diet, proper clothing, noble behavior and healthy sexual relations within marriage. A family is an institution and each member of the family has certain rights and obligations. Marriage is a religious duty on those who can meet the responsibilities.
5. Social Life
Man is commanded by Allah to extend his maximum help and kindness to other family members, relations, servants and neighbors. No superiority on account of class, color, origin or wealth.
6. Economical Life
Earning one’s living through honest means is not only a duty, but a great virtue in Islam.
7. Political Life
The sovereignty in the Islamic State belongs to God. Power in a trust of Allah. The ruler is only an acting manager chosen by the people to serve them according to God’s law. The State is to govern with justice and provide security to all citizens. Non Muslims have all the right to practice their faiths and live as they please in their personal life of marriage, worship, divorce, foods etc.
The Concept of Jihad
This term is much misunderstood by the non-Muslim world as well as by some Muslims themselves. Jihad means to “strife” in the cause of God. It has various modes: jihad with the pen, jihad with money etc. Strife within oneself is the greatest form of jihad in Islam. Jihad by sword is also allowed but only if a Muslim is left with no choice to practice his faith. Jihad has many other levels as well. If a Muslim takes care of orphans or widows, it is also jihad. If he takes care of his old or sick parents, that is also given the status of jihad.
Conclusion
Theoretically anyone who recites the Testimony “There is none worthy of Worship but Allah and Muhammed (PBUH) is Allah’s Messenger” is a Muslim. However, in the real sense a true Muslim is the one who fulfills all the requirements mentioned.
Islam is generally perceived as a very rigid and strict faith, whereas it is the opposite. God is most forgiving and merciful in Islam.
Allah says: “O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it.” Hadith
Islam has immense scope for forgiveness. As far as strict social laws are concerned, they are to ensure social and individual safety. For example, a rapist cannot be forgiven a hundred times, giving him margin for attempting another hundred rapes. Islam is love, humanism, righteousness, modernism, liberalism and common sense at its best.
This is only a sketch of what Islam is all about. However, to get to know in detail about it one needs to study the Quran, the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his sayings.
To pin down the lies of the writer, I reproduce below a few exhortions of the Prophet from the Holy Quran :-
Surah 3.
28. Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah. except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember)
Himself; for the final goal is to Allah.
85. If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah., never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).
152. Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order, and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you but He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace to those who believe.
Surah 8.
12. Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): ”I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.”
65. O Messenger. rouse the Believers to the fight. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will vanquish two hundred: if a hundred, they will vanquish a thousand of the Unbelievers: for these are a people without understanding.
69. But (now) enjoy what ye took in war, lawful and good: but fear Allah. for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
Surah 9.
5. But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
14. Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of Believer.
23. O ye who believe! take not for protectors your fathers and your brothers if they love infidelity above Faith: if any of you do so, they do wrong.
73. O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed.
123. O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.
Surah 25
52. Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers, but strive against them with the utmost strenuousness, with the (Qur’an).
Surah 29
49. Nay, here are Signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject Our Signs.
Surah 32
22. And who does more wrong than one to whom are recited the Signs of his Lord, and who then turns away therefrom? Verily from those who transgress We shall exact (due) Retribution
Surah 47
4. Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah.s Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.
Surah 48.
20. Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;
28. It is He Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth, to proclaim it over all religion: and enough is Allah for a Witness.
Surah 49
15. Only those are Believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and have never since doubted, but have striven with their belongings and their persons in the Cause of Allah: Such are the sincere ones.
Surah 61
4. Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure.
Surah 66
9. O Prophet! Strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge (indeed).
Surah 90
19. But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand.
20. On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round).
Secondly, Allah clearly tells in the Quran: ”He who kills a person without (the latter) having killed another person, it is as if he has killed all of humanity, and he who makes one person survive, it is as if he has caused all humanity to survive” (32,5)
”Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects Taghut (evil) and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trust worthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. ” (Qur’an 2:256)
I am not inviting anyone to Islam, simply telling about the true meaning of it.
God bless u.
I have not quoted any word from the Holy Quran with any context. I have quoted them as I found them and have reproduced it verbatim for the readers to judge your writings in totality without prejudices.
I have not stated anywhere that you are inviting people to embrace islam. Did I?
Holy Quran, Holy Bible, Guru Granth Sahib and religious books of 16 major religions of the world including Budhism, Jainism, Judaism, etc, are respected and worshipped in my home every day for generations.
This blog is simply meant to tell the true message of Islam; nowhere did i question hinduism, sikhism, or christainity.
So pls dont give it a color of war of religions. I am telling what the true message of this faith is not negating or putting down any other sir.
Read what you have quoted yourself ,again and again if need be.Then relate them to the fact that all verses about fighting the pagans and unbelievers in The Holy Book are about fighting those who:
1.Harassed and tortured the Muslims when they were in Mecca.
2.Forced them to migrate to Medina.
3.Even there they did not leave the Muslims in peace and attacked them with a large army, and continued conspiring with some Jews to completely wipe them out-till they were defeated in The conquest of Mecca.Where the holy prophet following this advise not only defeated but also forgave all these pagans -when he could have slaughtered them.
Perhaps if you have an open mind you will find each advise is not only perfectly correct for the situation in which the Muslims found themselves ,but also most humane and correct for any age in which the Muslims face a similar condition.
What I can say is this: I believe in the freedom of peoples to trust and practice their religions. I’m not too keen on religion, but I’m a very spiritual person. I’m a better person now as I’d like to think when I became inactive in my baptized religion which is Roman Catholic.
I thought it was just a waste of time and total hypocrisy on my part to attend the Holy Mass and just yawn and yawn while the priest gives a sermon about all things good for the fellowmen.
So, instead of wasting my time in church, I thought I’d be more useful teaching creative arts to prison inmates. I was 15 at that time.
The point in that was: religion might hit some people as boring because it becomes all talk and less action. It is after all a time of dogma overdrive and overload.
Maybe I’m lucky that the Muslims I’ve worked closely with were peaceful. I have friends with the Sultanate of Sulu in Southern Philippines and even helped them, in my own little way, with their age-old claim on Sabah.
From my Muslim friends, I have learned long ago that Islam teaches peace. I’ve been told that many times, and I’ve verified that with them.
On the other hand, there is a raging war right now in Mindanao in Southern Philippines between the government and Muslim rebels who want to have an autonomous land. From latest news that I’ve gathered, this autonomous ’region’ will only be comprised of 900 barangays (a barangay is the smallest community unit composed of average of 1,000 families/households). And there is a WAR for only this!
In retaliation to the government that has not yet handed over this autonomous ’region,’ the Muslim rebels attacked at least three towns, killed innocent civilians, burned houses, looted banks, small community stores, even children’s piggy banks at 4 am this morning.
And amongst all these, the Muslim rebels assert that their doing it for Allah.
What gives?
My teachers were Roman Catholics. They taught me the real meaning of ”Service to the humanity is service to god”. They did not teach Christianity to me.
My colleagues were mostly Sikhs and Jains. They updated me on sacrifices and righteousness.
The school that the world is, teaches me something new every day. I am still trying to learn as I was doing in my kindergarden days.
As far as what some Muslims are wrong in any part of the world does not go to the credit of Islam; its their ignorance. Allah doesnt ask them to kill or loot; its their personal choice and they spoil the name of Allah. In fact, there are strict instructions for the Muslims to obey their ruler: ”A Muslim has to listen to and obey (the order of his ruler) whether he likes it or not, as long as his orders involve not one in disobedience (to Allah), but if an act of disobedience (to Allah) is imposed one should not listen to it or obey it.’ Hadith.
I see lack of knowledge as a major cause behind the present senario.
However, what surprises me is that ple generally are very curiously to hit on this very aspect and can’t appreciate the principles of equality, justice, spiritualism which were all introduced by Islam....
And i totally agree with u that religion is boring if its all talk. This is why Allah has said in the Quran ”dont tell what you dont do”. So if someone has to talk about good things, he needs to be a good follower infact, a role model himself. Talk is good if it has some wisdom and inspiration for others.
Lastly, why telling and sharing knowledge is important is because most people are ignorant. They dont do research and find out things themselves but rather blindly follow preists, maulivs or pundits. I dont beleive in this.
I was 15 when i was reading the Quran. As a formal conventional in our part of the world, you just have to read the Arabic, understanding the meaning in your own language aint given much importance. As i was reading arabic, it just hit me one day, hey what are u reading? You dont know what it means so wats the point? Then onwards i started reading the translation which actaully showed me where i had to go, what i have to do and who am i, and who is Allah. I cud never appreciate the sermons in the Mosques coz they would rebuke and curse the sinners and politicians and hardly tell the actual message of Islam.
Later i read the life of Prophet Muahmmad (PBUH) and knew he is the one i have to emulate as much as i can.
So that was a digression (heheh)... again all i have to say is that if any Muslims are doing anything crazy in the name of Allah, they are at fault. I love my faith as it has taught me to discern right from wrong, good from bad and solved the mistery of the creation and world to me.
Being a humantarium is great in fact Allah says show mercy to the ones on the land and I will show mercy to you. Howver, apart from doing good to ple, i feel there are many questions and mysteriuos that one want an answer to. Who am i, what am i doing here and where will i go... being some of my own questions. for this i feel one needs guidance; you may not need to cling to any faith to be a good human but to know the reason of your creation and your being, your Creator, the reality of lilfe and death... u need to look for some faith, some philosophy... i dunno if all think this way, but i had all these questions in my head. So i got my answers from what i am sharing with you here...
Thats all my lord. LOL..heheh
But seriously now (since this posts reeaaalllly sounds serious, hehe...), faith is a very personal matter. My enlightenment (now, that sounds truly truly serious, hahaha!), came one day from somewhere I didn’t know and in a manner which I didn’t know either.
It just dawned on me, just like that! Suddenly, it just became crystal clear to me as to what to do and how to go about it - for the service of others (now, that sounds too Christian, hehe...)
But I just kept this enlightenment to myself and just now sharing it with you here (and surely this is not just between the two of us here, LOL).
I was wary to share it with others because then the Catholics (and this country is painfully Catholic) will surely say, ”Oh, you’ve been touched by the Holy Spirit!” And will claim it as proof to further a religion. LOL
But I know - to myself - that, yes, I’ve been touched by the Holy Spirit.
haheheha... thats great girly. There are two aspects: relationship and attitude towards ple and second, attitude and relationship towards the Lord. If we can have both upright watever faith or no faith we have, we are enlightened...
Thats all for today my dear litle enlightened angel ;))))
its sad that people are mostly intolerant about other religions. most wars would have been avoided this way...
anyways :) to each his own! the same is the case with religion!
I am not very religious nor do i know any problems with other faiths. As you have beautifully said ”to each his own! the same is the case with religion!”
The same thing is in the Quran ”I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine.”
Only God is the best judge; we ple should not judge ANYONE since we cant see what is within the heart of any person and HE sees not our apparent faiths or faces but our hearts :)
I am overjoyed by your commment :)))))))))))))
thats my thing; do your stuff and leave the rest of the judging part to God :P he knows how to handle that better than anyone else...and anyways, how does religion reallly matter? a corrupt person does not belong to any religion because no religion on earth teaches a person to do something wrong :)
oh, thannks for saying u like my name :P im ecstatic now! :P
The word Islam means 'submission', or the total surrender of oneself to God (or Allāh, الله). Of course the followers of Islam have various interpretations of the Holy Quran. Some believe that those who are non-Muslims are in fact not God's creation. Hence they are so hostile towards other faiths.
Propaganda meant publicity, to the Nazis. It is not considered so by others.
I liked your post. I am happy to see a rational muslim posting her thought in an open forum like this.
But I am of the view that Islam certainly propagates ”hatred” and ”killing”. I have no issues with muslims or with anyone who embraces any religion. But as a peaceful citizen of India, I am scared as the arms of terror are growing stronger and stronger in India making our lives extremely unsafe.
World over, Islam is viewed with horror and disbelief. Muslims who are like you and others who I come across on day-to-day life in India are extremely good and well mannered by virtue of their personal decency, education and esteem.
But Muslim fundamentalists and terror groups are taking advantage of the tolerance, freedom and secularism of free societies to kill innocent people.
But Koran is very hateful against non-believers. I say this based on my little readings about Koran that is being exposed in several sites and in forum discussions like this. Islam consistently propagates ”shahid” (sacrificing life for the sake of allah) which is the root cause of the increasing number of suicide bombers among islamic youth. See you tube video titled ”Islam religion of hate”
One survey done among muslim youth in Palestian indicates, When asked about ”what is their ambition”?, more than 70% of youth (aged between 15 - 20) replied that they want to become suicide bombers and sacrifice their lives for the sake of allah. This is very painful. Suicide bombers are worshipped as martyrs and this triggers others to commit that stupid act in other parts of the world. It is painful that none of the educated or rationale muslim comes forward to condemn this.
Jihad could be misunderstood term. Educated muslims try to cover it up by interpretting it as if it means fighting to protect. My question is why somebody need to kill others to protect their religion?. There is no threat to any religion in the world today. The problem with Islam is that it doesn’t believe in co-existing. It propagates domination.
In my opinion, Islam doesn’t teach the art of listening. Islam propagates unconditional submission. No question is permitted. It doesn’t believe in dialogue and accepting constructive criticism. Islam is too rigid and refuses to change with the changing times. Criticism in any form, however light it may be, will have to face ”fatwa” or killing. Whenever islam fundamentalists are questioned, why he beleives in killing, their stereotyped answers is ”why america kills innocent muslims?”
Also no other religion supresses women the way Islam does. Islam regards woman as weak and incapable of making decision. where as in reality, they are as strong as a man and their decision making is better. personally my wife takes decisions better than mine when it comes to family related decisions.
Islam insists everyone to follow a lifestle, particularly dressing that is suitable only for those living in deserts.
My opinions expressed here are based on countless videos that are out in You-tube (particularly that of Dr. wafa sultan)challenging islam, books that challenge mohammed and Islamic hadiths and sites like www.faithfreedom.org
I certainly dont mean to hurt Islam, but I feel sad that innocent people are getting killed by some mindless, mislead people. Those who are killing themselves are too are innocent. They are kind of arrogantly-innocent.
It is time that muslim intellectuals come forward to educate fundamental islamists about co-existance, religious tolerance, universal brotherhood, respecting other cultures etc.,
Firstly, as I mentioned earlier, Islam does not stop anyone from practicing their faith. Suicide bombing has nothing to do with Islam. Some Muslims are practising this, under what intentions I don’t know. Allah has clearly said in the Quran ” Killing a single person unduly is as if killing the entire mankind...” So no one can take this out from Quran. Whoever kills innocent lives be he a Muslim or non Muslims, he is a sinner in the sight of Allah.
Secondly, u said Islam viewed with horror worldwide, then can anyone tell why is it the fastest growing faith today in America itself? In the west?
Here is a CNN news: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9704/14/egypt.islam/
ISLAM: FASTEST GROWING RELIGION ON THE PLANET
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. This is not fiction but
reality. This is not Muslim bias but based on hard-core evidence. Check out
the amazing facts and figures and see for yourself why Islam is the fastest
growing faith on the planet:
World Almanac and Book of facts 1935 and Readers Digest Almanac and Yearbook
1983.
”Among every four humans in the world, one of them is Muslim. Muslims have
increased by over 235 percent in the last fifty years up to nearly 1.6
billion. By comparison, Christians have increased by only 47 percent and
Jews have decreased by 4%. In the West, Islam is the second largest
religious group in France, Great Britain and USA.”
The CIA World’s Facts Book
”The total number of Muslims in 1996 was 1.4 billion which was 26% of the
world population. According to UN statistics Islam’s annual growth in
1994-1995 was 6.40% compared to only 1.46% of Christianity. The total number
of Muslims in the world in 1998 was 1.6 billion (1, 678, 442,000).”
It surly is one great question of wonder of many including myself.
Thirdly, i know which verses of Quran that you must have read to say that Islam instils hatred for non believers. Quran was revealed over a period of many years in parts. Verses cannot be seen in isolation but in the context and scenario they were revealed by Allah. These specific verses were revealed during battles when the non believers attacked the Muslims and they engaged in war. Those ple kicked the Muslims out of their towns, did not let them practise their faith, stoned them, tortured then on the basis of faith. This is one condition when jihad applies in the form of fight against the enemy. What we see today is not the right picture of jihad wen anyone gets up and blows himself up in the name of Allah; Allah has not said so, its their own fabrication.
Plus, Quran has condemned the worshipers of man-made gods, but Allah has not asked any Muslims to kill any of them if he does not harm them. Some Muslims are doing wrong but we cant blame the faith for their deeds. They are themselves to bb blamed for it.
Thirdly, you said Islam does not give rights to women etc. That’s sheer misinformation on your part. Islam was the first faith that liberated women and slaves, that put an end to discrimination which was largely a part of Hinduism, it put an end to caste system and declared ”all people as equal like the teeth of a comb.” Unlike some faiths, Islam does not say anyone as untouchable even if he is not a Muslim. It was Islam that liberated women and all classes 1400 years back. Here is what piece from Prince Charles on women in Islam: “Remember, if you will, that Islamic countries like Turkey, Egypt and Syria gave women the vote as early as Europe did its women - and much earlier than in Switzerland! In those countries women have long enjoyed equal pay, and the opportunity to play a full working role in their societies. The rights of Muslim women to property and inheritance, to some protection if divorced, and to the conducting of business, were rights prescribed by the Qur’an 1,400 years ago, even if they were not everywhere translated into practice. In Britain at least, some of these rights were novel even to my grandmother’s generation!”
The wife of Prophet (PBUH) himself was involved in trade, women are given right to chose their husband, right in inheritance and right to be educated and there in NO discrimination in men and women. “Paradise lies under the feet in your mother” said Prophet (PBUH) to tell us the status of women. “The best among you are those who are best to their wife.” Here is detailed article at my blog which I wrote regarding the rights of women in Islam: http://fariha.instablogs.com/entry/the-rights-of-women-in-islam-the-true-perspective/
Then Islam does not tell women or men to wear Arabic gowns! Pls..LOL. I mean that’s crazy information! Havent you seen white Muslims women in jeans or long skirts? Islam tells women and men to dress up modestly just like I have seen in many old hindi movies women used to put their saree on their front and some even used to cover their face from strangers. We may wear jeans or saree or whatever, it should not expose the private parts. The funny thing is that in Christianity this order of covering your head is so strict that the punishment if some women doesn’t do so is to shave off her head! But ple know more abt Islam than about Christianity I think. There is no such punishment for not covering your head in Islam!
Lastly I agree that some Muslims have spoiled the name of Islam but how many are they? May be a few thousands whereas there are between 1 billion to 1.8 billion of them in the world. So you should not label any faith as intolerant if a few men are practicing stupidity. I agree with you that we need scholars like Dr. Zakir to clear things to others and I think no matter what these few ple are doing, Islam is spreading with full pace since ple get to read about it out of anger, curiosity or hatred and thus they come to know the real message.
What surprises me is that ple cant appreciate the all human and great practices of Islam and are only after hitting the acts of few bad Muslims! Islam tells us that there is no one superior on the basis of caste, color or creed. Islam tells us to choose the same for your brother as you chose for yourself. Islam tells us we are same as our servants, it tells us that we cant be true Muslims if we sleep with full stomach while our neighbour is hungry, Islam tells us that we should not mal treat women….. I can go on and on.
My only request to the readers is that we don’t invite anyone to accept Islam but they should not be blind towards those principles of equality, justice and humanism which Islam pioneered. I feel the triumph and proof of Islam’s sacredness are the figures with ple are turning to it.
I am the first one to condemn any killing in the name of Allah as all His creation is His family. We don’t have the right to kill them if they believe in Him or not as long as long as they don’t stop Muslims from practicing and living their life. “There is no compulsion in religion” Quran. I hope and pray that some Muslims don’t spoil the name of Allah or Islam in the name of jihad. Allah is the judge between ple and this is what the Quran says that “To you be your Way, and to me mine.” He is to judge between who was right amongst us to worship One God, or the son of God or God in various forms. Let Him judge on the Day of Judgement and let no one do so and kill none.
Regards,
Sikhism went one step ahead than islam and surnamed all male as ”Singh” and all female as ”Kaur”. It could not make them a classless society. Muslim Shaikhs consider themselves superior than others. hinduism believes that casteless society can not be created and classless society can not sustain. men are different, they have different intellect and skills. new castes will keep on cropping up depending upon their profession. Hidu law givers gave 4 broad categoris. over a period of time, untouchability cropped in. Hindu society has the elasticity to reform itself.
Women in Islam are for pleasure. Taslima Nasreen writes that they are treated as ”maal” meaning goods, a purchasable commodity which can be sold, purchased and enslaved. Hinduism elevates a female to the level of Goddess and worships them as Shakti (Power).
Hinduism does not have the concept of slavery.
Kindly worship whoever you feel like. The truth remains truth; my version or your version is not important and only God is judge between us not you or myself.
Sir pls be the winner here: Islam is very bad and Hindusim is great and the world should embrace Hinduism.
Please be happy and relax now.
I am not competing with you for winning any argument. If you find my comments offensive, I shall stop commenting on your articles.
I love you and I don’t intend to hurt you.
”Everyone can distinguish mercy from wrath, whether he is wise or ignorant or corrupt, but a mercy hidden in wrath, or wrath hidden in the heart of mercy can only be recognized by one whose heart contains a spiritual touchstone.” -Rumi
Take care.
You are engaging in a futile effort on these pages.I find some of the responses most offensive and disgusting. Please remember that The holy Quran tells you that a seal has been placed on some peoples hearts ...and they will never be inclined towards good.So let them be happy in their beliefs ...even if it is the goodness of homosexuality;womanising or the great benefits of drinking liquor or cows urine.
Plus as you yourself said every one has his own defination of what is good, holy or even right.
Still a good blog.Wish i could give it five stars!!!
Fariha has done a great job of doing that with this article. Mr. Ramesh has his doubts about Islam, however unfounded, and no doubt many others feel the same way as him as well. But that is HIS opinion and point of view, however we perceive it we need to respect it.
As I said before, out job is only to spread the message.
May Allah (SWT) make us grow closer to Him and purify our hearts and intentions.
Peace,
M.
Our job is to convey the message, thats all. we are not guidian upon anyone. The truth is clear, its everyone’s choice to accpet it or not. I have done my done and hope Allah accepts my effort and forgive me.
However, i doubt if i have the right audiance here as Hassan said, so i am not sure if i can or should continue to write here.
I am not sitting in religious discourse and its not my mission to spread my religion by comparing it with yours. Hinduism is the only religion in which a person can not convert or be baptised. He need not embrace it. If he lives by his faith he is as religious as any Hindu is because Hindusism is a way of life.
I dunno if my effort is futile or not, i wrote it as i felt i should... i dunno if it will help any or not but i beleive all we can do is to tell the truth, it is Allah who guides whoever He wills and whoever seeks guidence.

Local Opinions (43)
Surah 48.
20. Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;

73. O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them.
Surah 48.
20. Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;
